The CEO of Iran Energy Exchange stated that the energy exchange is planning to issue Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) this year.
According to Bargh News, Ali Naghavi, regarding the Iran Energy Exchange’s measures to develop renewable energies, added: “Last year, the Green Electricity Board was launched on the Energy Exchange, and up to March 15, 2025, transactions amounted to over 664 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, valued at more than 2,600 billion Tomans.”
He continued, “In terms of volume, there has been a growth of over 108% compared to 2024, and in terms of value, it shows a 255% increase, indicating that the market has reached a stable point.”
The CEO of Iran Energy Exchange, emphasizing that issuing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) is on their agenda for this year, noted: “The regulations for this were communicated by the Ministry of Energy at the end of February last year, but it had to go through the acceptance process; once the acceptance request is received, the next steps will be taken, which will help leverage the capacity of these certificates in the renewable market.”
Naghavi said, “We are striving to take steps in the field of financing this year and have been in negotiations with several banks to have joint renewable energy financing within a framework of cooperation.”
Flourishing Trading of Savings Certificates
Regarding the trading of savings certificates, he continued, “In the electricity savings certificate, the expectation was that the volume of transactions would begin in May and deepen with the start of the peak consumption season. However, so far, seven million hours of dry electricity savings and eight million and seven hundred thousand kilowatt-hours of non-dry electricity have been traded on the exchange from the beginning of 2024 to the end of the year.”
The CEO of the Energy Exchange added, “Currently, four projects for their allocation have been accepted on the exchange, mainly related to replacing high-consumption lamps in the lighting system, which were from the University of Medical Sciences and are being implemented in the provinces of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Isfahan, Mazandaran, Yazd, and Kurdistan. Around 2.3 billion kilowatt-hours have been allocated so far, making this possible, and we anticipate better trading from May onwards.”
